What we check

Every airline allowance splits into three, checked in this order:

1
Personal item

The small bag that goes under the seat in front of you — almost always free, and rarely weighed.

2
Carry-on

The wheeled case stowed in the overhead bin — the allowance airlines enforce most strictly, and where budget carriers differ most.

3
Checked

The suitcase you hand over at check-in — sized and weighed against the allowance included with your fare.

Standard published limits for economy tickets, reviewed September 2026. Fare type, route and aircraft can change the allowance — the checker shows those variants per airline.

How to Measure Your Luggage

Follow these 5 simple steps, or see the full walkthrough in the luggage guide.

1Place your luggage upright on a flat surface.
2Use a tape measure to measure from the ground to the top handle (height).
3Measure the width from side to side.
4Measure the depth from front to back, including wheels and handles.
5Compare all three measurements to your airline limits.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled, you could get $250–$600 compensation — check eligibility here.

Understanding Luggage Size Requirements

Most airlines cluster around the same numbers — roughly 56 × 36 × 23 cm for a cabin bag and 158 cm total for checked baggage — but budget carriers cut both, and the airline you fly always has the final word.
